A Large Mid 19th Century Chinese Four Door Marriage Cabinet.
The painted typically simplistic moulded carcass with recessed single panels to each side, the front with an arrangement of four doors, each with four panels, the top with recessed banding inlaid with crushed Mother of Pearl surrounding a raised stained panel, above a painted scene depicting two characters carrying out various tasks, each surrounded with painted prunus sprigs above a black ground. The third panel located below the character scenes, closely replicating the panel at the top of each door with crushed Mother of Pearl Inlay, differing slightly to the ground of the recessed border due to the lighter shade. The bottom panel to each door features another raised panel, painted with central, vertical foliate sprig designs.
The doors opening to reveal a single adjustable shelf, a fixed shelf fitted with a single long drawer flanked to each side with a single small drawer, each featuring tear drop handles with differing designs to each, and a a false floor, lifting to reveal a large open storage space.
